Inspired by forms found in the natural world as well as Classical architecture, the design of the Aphaia tables synthesizes these elements into a compelling expression made accessible through the cutting edge stone working techniques of Kreoo.

The key to the striking presence of the Aphaia tables is found in the undulating outlines and surfaces of their design. The play of light and shadow over the curved surfaces accentuates the characteristics of the stone, be it the warm, layered foliations of travertino rosso or the delicate veining of Calacatta. The repetitive curves of each table’s base may suggest comparisons to the fluted or reeded columns of Greek and Roman antiquity while the smooth transition between base and tabletop, along with the grooves, could evoke connections to nature, such as mushrooms and fungi.

The unusual geometry of the Aphaia tables comes from the careful balance achieved by allowing the undulations of the base column to grow outwards, increasing in scale as they reach tabletop height. The resulting table top edge, formed from a total of 20 undulations, offers enticing tactile qualities that imbue each Aphaia table with a unique personality and an iconic sensibility.

While each Aphaia table is circular, the collection encompasses a range of sizes and a selection of heights. There are tables that are intended to accompany seating furniture arrangements, positioned as side tables or placed together to form coffee table combinations. Other Aphaia tables are intended as entrance centrepieces or dining tables. The elegant bar-height table works equally as well as an eye-catching podium for the display of a vase of flowers or sculptural objects.
