Parupu is a children’s chair made from DuraPulp. DuraPulp is a mixture of paper pulp and PLA, a completely non-oil based bioplastic made from cornstarch. This is why Parupu is as light as if it were made of paper, yet as durable as if it were made of plastic. What’s more is that it is 100% biodegradable. Parupu is the result of a collaborative research project between pulp producer Södra, R&D company STFI-Packforsk and Claesson Koivisto Rune.

So, why is making a chair from paper particularly suitable for children? As we all know, children grow fast which means they need furniture that is practical and well-designed yet doesn’t cost a fortune. Besides, once it’s outgrown or worn-out it is safely composted. An ecological sustainability benefit that counts a lot when making things for small people who belong to the future.
